about the company
In 2004, Jim Malone, a producer, songwirter and lifelong musician, began clearing
land on some recently purchased acreage in upstate New York, while commuting from his apartment on Manhattan's Lower East Side, . Three years
later, he had finished a log home and begun a love affair with
woodworking, craftsmanship and design.
CounterEvolution NYC, the company he started in late 2007, restores and
re-imagines wood from one of America's most enduring icons—the bowling
alley.
about our products
All our pieces are handcrafted from wood salvaged from bowling lanes and fit
into one of three categories based on the materials we combine to create the piece:
Modern Rustic
Our pieces from this line are 100% reclaimed wood. A small amount
of steel may be added for reinforcement, but otherwise, this is as Green
as it gets in the world of reclaimed furniture. Finger-spliced joints,
rough-hewn sides and the long-running, wide grain of Heart Pine combine
with sleek design to make these pieces a match made in Green Heaven.
Industrial Green
Our Industrial Green line features our innovative fusion of steel
I-beams with unique sections of the lanes. These pieces work equally well
in the urban loft, the contemporary home and the country garden.
Reclaimed Cafe
Designed for restaurants, bars and lounges, these pieces also look
great in the Eco-friendly home and Green-conscious apartment, especially
where space is an issue. They feature our signature Heart Pine table tops
with blackened steel sides and stylish black metal bases.
All of our
handmade pieces combine the warmth and character that only reclaimed wood
can provide, with elegant, modern design. But they not only look great,
they are true, eco-friendly products.

Seeing the Forest
for the Trees
When you buy
products made with reclaimed wood you give trees a chance to grow,
especially those in old-growth forests.
The use of reclaimed wood insures that perfectly good lumber, whose
usefulness might not be readily apparent, doesn’t end up in the
incinerator, adding to greenhouse gases.
But the best thing about reclaimed wood is the way it looks and feels—the
beauty and character of the old wood, and the signs of its former life,
only add to its richness.
And nothing suggests a more colorful past than wood reclaimed from bowling
alleys
So, whether you're a fan of good design, Ultra-Green products, or America's 2nd greatest indoor pastime, you can't go wrong with a unique, handcrafted piece from CounterEvolution NYC.
more about our products
While the highest level of care is taken in the preparation and crafting of your piece, it is not uncommon to find small "imperfections" (nailholes, dents, etc.) in the surface. This is true with most reclaimed wood, and we make no attempt to fill or camouflage these "flaws". We see them as added character and a reminder of the woods colorful past. And, we include these features at no extra charge!
